This recipe was adapted from Racheal Ray's Tasty Travels, Episode Best Barbeque and is from the Cowgirl Hall of Fame Bar-B-Q & Western Grill in Sante Fe, New Mexico. Enjoy! This is a southwestern and Western recipe.

  1. Puree onions and celery.
  2. In a large sauce pot combine the puree and the remaining ingredients and simmer for 25 minutes. Remove and use as desired. Great on meats, tofu, even vegetables!

My DH and I really enjoyed this recipe with shredded chicken, I tasted it about 10 minutes into cooking and wasn't sure how it would turn out... but I let it simmer about 45 min to thicken and it was great! It didn't have as much bite as another reviewer mentioned but I did cut down 1/4 tsp on the chili powder and a little on the liquid smoke. I also didn't puree the celery and onions, just finely diced!

WOWEEE! If you're looking for a mild, ketchup-y sauce, keep looking! This one is packed with flavor and has a bite that'll make you run for the water hose! We loved it! I cut the sauce down to 2 cups and had enough to cover 3 large shredded chicken breasts for sandwiches. I also kept the onions and celery in as finely chopped pieces.
