Grandma Bubbe's Apple Cake

"A delicious moist white cake with layers of apple and cinnamon. When my grandmother was a young bride she made this cake weekly for my grandfather. When I was single and in the dating world, she told me "this is a cake to catch a man with." (kosher - pareve)"

directions

  • Mix the sugar, juice, eggs, oil and vanilla together in a mixer at medium speed for about 10 minutes, until smooth.
  • Sift the flour, baking powder and salt together, and slowly add to the wet mixture, scraping down the sides of the bowl to mix thoroughly.
  • Mix the apples, sugar and cinnamon in a separate bowl.
  • Spray a bundt pan with non-stick spray.
  • Pour half of the batter in the bundt pan, then top with half of the apple mixture.
  • Alternate layers again to finish the batter, then the apples.
  • Bake at 350 degrees F for about 70 minutes, or until done.
  • Cool cake partially in pan, then invert cake onto a cooling rack to finish cooling.
  • This also makes great muffins, but cut the baking time down to about 45-50 minutes for muffins.

  1. yummy cake.I used apple juice because I was out of orange juice.I also reduced the amount of oil (1 cup=16 Tablespoons.I used 13 tablespoons). It's important to remember that the top of the cake browns before the cake itself is ready.Place aluminum foil on top of the cke and keep baking until a toothpick comes out clean.

  2. I made a cake with this, and it was fantastic. I added an extra teaspoon of vanilla, and cinnamon . We really enjoyed this one, and will make again. Thanks for sharing.

  3. This is a very nice cake - I'm afraid my Granny's apple cake will always be my #1 favorite, though. I made a few changes to "healthify" it, and it adapted beautifully! I use 1 cup whole grain flour in place of one of the cups all-purpose, 1/2 cup applesauce + 1/2 cup canola oil in place of the 1 cup oil, Recipe#289392 for 2 of the eggs, and 2 tsp. cinnamon instead of the 1 tsp. called for. It was really good - thanks for sharing! made for Went to Market April 2008.

  4. I made this into muffins and they were delicious! Those who are not fond of very sweet breads may not enjoy these, but I loved them. I think this makes way more than 12 servings though. Thanks! I'll make these again!

  5. This did remind me of something my grandmother made. I added toasted walnuts to the mix and cinnamon applesauce which gave it a great flavor. Thanks for the memory and a great recipe! ~V

Two of my three cats. <img src="http://www.recipezaar.com/members/home/512309/shayn%20ying.jpg"> And my *biggest* and *BEST* cat of all: <img src="http://www.recipezaar.com/members/home/512309/gabby%206th%20birthday%20leopard.jpg"> I am a busy mom of small children by day, and I work part-time as a doctor at night. I am trying to find the ever-elusive balance between career-track and mommy-track. Cooking and baking bring me joy, and I love to see my kids eat healthy homemade foods. I have relatives with a local organic farm, so I use their produce as much as possible. Yum! After some trial and error with rating recipes for various contests and tag games, I think I will from now on stick to the definitions provided by Zaar: 3 stars means I liked it! I might have had to make some adjustments, though. 4 stars means I LOVED it! Almost no adjusting was necessary. 5 stars means one of the most outstanding things I have ever tasted! Stands, as is, as a fabulous dish. I can't imagine giving only 1 or 2 stars -- that would mean that I either picked a recipe that I should have known wouldn't suit my taste, or that I really messed up while making the recipe. <img src="http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b399/susied214/permanent%20collection/PACfall08partic.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"> <img src="http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b399/susied214/permanent%20collection/IWasAdoptedfall08.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"> <img src="http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z205/jubespage/kid-friendlytag-participation2.gif"> <img src="http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a254/Sharon123/Copyoftag300-banner.jpg" border="0" alt="Susie's Banner for Newest Zaar Tag"> <img src="http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y53/DUCHESS13/Zaar%20World%20Tour%204/ZWTAB-tg.gif"> <img src="http://img355.imageshack.us/img355/3476/mybanner483b81c1ea2dfah7.jpg"> <img src="http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c105/jewelies/DesertRose.jpg"><img src="http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y164/lauralie41/cookbookswapspring08.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"><a href="http://s7.photobucket.com/albums/y254/Missymop/?action=view¤t=kidfrecipeswap.jpg" target="_blank"> <img src="http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y254/Missymop/kidfrecipeswap.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> <img src="http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b399/susied214/permanent%20collection/PAC08Main.jpg"><img src="http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b399/susied214/permanent%20collection/adoptedspring08.jpg"> <img src="http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r317/j_welcome/pics2/food/PRMRcopy.jpg"> <img src="http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y53/DUCHESS13/RSC%20Banners/RSC11-SusieCat.jpg"> <img src="http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r271/copperhorse58/Zaar%20Food%20Photos/Food%20Photos%202008/herbspicesticker.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"> <img src="http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b399/susied214/CV.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"> <img src="http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b280/carolinamoon21/Ingredients/Other/photo-swap-7sticky.jpg"> <img src="http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj240/marienixon_715/kittencaljpg.jpg"> <img src="http://www.recipezaar.com/members/home/1956/holidaylightssticker.jpg"> <img src="http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e347/Saturn6666/Other/tagforpage1.jpg"> <img src="http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b399/susied214/permanent%20collection/Adopted1smp.jpg" border="0" alt="Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket"><img src="http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b399/susied214/permanent%20collection/smPACp.jpg" border="0" alt="Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket">
