A fabulous fix for chocoholics! The boiling water forms a thick, scrumptious pudding covered by the fantasically rich brownie. It's a bit like a souffle, but with a wonderful twist!
- Sift together first 5 ingredients.
- Add milk, oil, and vanilla.
- Mix till smooth.
- Pour into ungreased 8x8x2 pan.
- Mix together brown sugar and 1/4 cup cocoa.
- Sprinkle over batter.
- Pour water over entire batter.
- Bake at 350 for 45 minutes.
I tried this recipe but didn't care for it using the boiling water - it was too thin and bitter - so I changed it up buy replacing the hot water with hot unsweetened vanilla almond milk. That made all the difference in the world! The pudding was creamy and thicker. I'm sure regular milk would work as well.
One of our favorites - we also add chopped nuts to the dry ingrediant mix. And combine the cocoa and brown sugar with the boiling water before pouring it all over the mix. Chef #1478365 may have had bad luck if using a low quality cocoa - but you can always add more cocoa than the recipe calls for.
I dont know how it is possible anyone gave this 5 stars. It is gross and a waste of time. It has no chocolate taste almost at all and the "pudding" is this runny flavorless goo at the bottom that looks like hot fudge but surprisingly has zero taste as well. The cake part is also nasty. Even a big scoop of ice cream can not save the recipe. GROSS
