Apple Crumble

"This is a simple low sugar version of a crustless apple crumble. Changing the type of apples will also allow for different flavors and textures. I have used Golden Delicious apples mixed with Empire apples and have been very pleased."

  • Toss the sliced apples in the lemon juice as your are cutting them.
  • Combine the barley flour and cinnamon with the apple mixture.
  • Place in a 9 inch pie plate and dot the top with butter.
  • Combine the flax seeds, wheat germ, oats, almonds, flour, sugar, and cinnamon in a bowl and stir together.
  • Stir in the canola oil to make it look like crumbles. You can add some water if it's not moist enough.
  • Place the crumble topping on the pile of apples in the pie plate.
  • Bake at 350°F for 50 minutes.

  1. Due to dietary restrictions, I substituted tapioca flour for barley flour, oat bran for wheat germ, and left out the lemon juice I also added some fresh mulberries. The topping was crunchy and delicious!
