Reviews

  1. very good but did add blueberries to help with the flavors and texture. Also added more milk (used skim) because the batter was too crumbly to form into balls.

  2. Delicious for a low fat recipe! My mother is a scone-lover, but she makes them the classic way, which I think is way too unhealthy. This is a good way for those who love sweets to eat in moderation. Thanks for the recipe!

  3. Brilliant! Easy, tasty! Can be made with flavored apple sauces, and then adjusting the various spices. Particularly good with peach flavored apple sauce.

  4. I'm torn on this one. I think it is a good starting point recipe, as I want to try again adding things like blueberries, vanilla, perhaps fat free buttermilk. As it stands now the scones are a little bit tough and dry...I don't typically add butter to things but I was tempted this morning. DH agreed that they taste okay but are just missing something. I think fruit would help the texture out, too, as mine came out a little chewy. Thanks for posting, though--I look forward to "fiddling" with this one.

  5. my first try with scones but they ended up tasting great. right amount of sweetness and perfect consistency.

Tweaks

  1. This was very easy. I used regular flour as we didn't have any wheat flour and 2 teaspoons of baking powder instead of the cream of tartar and soda. I'm planning on making it again, but perhaps adding diced apples and coating the tops is just a sprinkle of cinnamon and sugar.
