I used Beyond Beef to make a vegetarian version. It was delicious. I was more generous with the garlic and spices though.
I made this recipe but, instead of liquid oils, I decided to use a healthier alternative so, I used unrefined cold pressed coconut oil. I used the 1 cup as it called for and OMG!!! IT WAS AMAZING!!! It was moist and It gave it a hint of coconut flavor to add to the banana and pineapple flavors already there. I've had given loaves to my sister, son, parents, and 3 friends; they all begged for the recipe!!! Will definitely keep using the coconut oil!
As for the number of prunes - 15 vs 5, etc., keep in mind the length of time you've been constipated... as that is a blockage. Don't add too much fiber behind that blockage. Fiber is like a sponge and expands so always start off slowly to get the poop moving first. After it's moved then the fiber behind it keeps it going. Still, prunes are not just fiber they have something that acts as a natural laxitive (sorbitol?). So if you bloat, consider that too much. And although I hate to say it... sometimes it's just easier to releive long term constipation from the other end. A simple OTC enema can soften and help remove the front and most crusted dehydrated part of the stool allowing for easier passage of what follows. Then - lots of water and more fiber.
