Sugar Cookies

"I received this recipe from a woman who is like a grandmother to me. This is a great recipe for simple sugar cookies. However, this recipe is not meant for Christmas cut out cookies, the dough is not thick enough. It is important how you grease the cookie sheets. Too little, and they won't spread. Too much, and they will spread all over the place. I usually use about a tablespoon or so of Crisco to grease them. I love these cookies because they taste like they came from a bakery!"

  • Preheat oven to 375.
  • Cream together butter and sugar.
  • Beat in eggs and vanilla.
  • Beat in sour cream.
  • Sift together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. You do not have to sift the ingredients, but it will give the cookies a finer texture.

  1. These are very good, and they are different than my normal sugar cookie. Because of the butter they have more of a chewy texture instead of a biscuit texture. The sour cream adds just the right amount of flavor too. Thanks for posting!! This recipe came in handy when I didn't have any Crisco on hand and my son wanted sugar cookies for his birthday.

Hey everyone! I'm a sophomore in high school, baking is my absolute passion. I can't get enough of it. Christmas is my favorite holiday because I get to make food for everyone. I guess I get that from my mom. She died when I was 10 of cervical cancer. I am a vegetarian. I am fairly well traveled for my age, having been to every state in America. Texas has the best Mexican food I have ever tasted and I think California cheese is better than Wisconsin cheese. Alaska has the best fish but Maine doesn't have the best lobster (I tried those before I became vegetarian). I have worked at a bakery (not family owned) for 3 1/2 years and I love it. I am particularly fond of this website. It allows me to be the chef I am rather than the academically correct girl everyone expects be to be. I hope you enjoy my recipes!
