i had this dessert at a bistro, it was just wonderful in it's simplicity
- 1 pint strawberry
- 4 tablespoons high quality balsamic vinegar
- 1 tablespoon fresh ground black pepper
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- Wash and drain strawberries.
- Slice berries into 1/2-inch thick slices and place in a large mixing bowl.
- Add vinegar, pepper and sugar and gently toss to coat. Divide among 4 martini glasses and serve.
Wonderful! Fresh pepper is my go-to aphrodisiac, I love the zing it brings. This recipe is delicious, easy and pretty, smells great, too. I didn't change a thing this time, in the future I might try making this with a white balsamic, perhaps the color won't be as muted. I can't wait for my alpine strawberries to ripen for this one. What a pleasant surprise. Have been looking at this recipe for a while, kept wanting to try it, but kept forgetting when I had the strawberries. I was so curious why anyone would put a vinegar on a perfectly good strawberry and ruin it LOL So I knew there had to be a reason. Wow, I myself really liked this. I had a really good brand of Balsamic Vinegar and was eager to try it with this. First I just used the vinegar alone to test it out. Wow it is like the vinegar brings out the sweetness of the strawberries. Then I did add the sugar and the pepper, I still liked it, thought maybe I added a little too much pepper, seemed hot, but ya know what, I still liked it! I am going to try this out on company this holiday weekend, boy will they be surprised by the ingredients!! Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to broaden my views. Love that!
I made this as a salad to go with our dinner. I did leave out the suger because our strawberries were so sweet. I also only used 1/2 pint of berries since it was just DH and me. Thanks for such a great recipe that will be made often. Made for: Tag it Red, February 2009.
