      Heat oven to 350.
    2. 2
      In large mixer bowl, beat the sugar, shortening,molasses and egg at medium speed until well blended. Add the remaining ingredients and mix at low speed until a soft dough forms.

      Shape dough into 1-inch balls. Roll balls in a dish of granulated sugar and place 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie/baking sheets.

      Bake 10-12 minutes. Let cool and enjoy!

      Wonderful taste from all the spices. I got 45 cookies, they baked for 10 minutes and they do spread a lot. The finished cookie was extremely soft. More cake-like than a cookie. I had to put parchment paper between the layers of cookies otherwise they would clump together.

      Really, really loved these! I don't like to cook with shortening, so I used butter. Really happy with the results - thanks for a great recipe!
