Recipe by Old widow
I recently found an old handwritten cookbook of my late grandmother's. This is one of the recipes I've made from it. I had not really ever tried bread pudding but I really liked it. I've made it as the recipe states and also with a sweet bread I had on hand. I like it best served warm but it is good cold as well.
Directions See How It's Made
- Generously spread each slice of bread with butter. Place buttered side down in greased casserole dish.
- Combine the eggs, sugar, salt and milk. Strain liquid while pouring over bread in dish.
- Let stand for 30 minutes.
- Bake at 325 degrees for 1 hour. Cover during first half hour of baking.
- Serve warm or cold.
