Coney Island Chili Dog Pie (Low Carb)

"This recipe is SO good that it does not even taste low-carb. This recipe originally came from http://www.lowcarbfriends.com but I have modified it to suite my family. It is easy to make and freezes well too."

  1. Uhh, yummy!!!! We really liked this, extremely flavorful! I only did one thing different and added more mustard. I'm not even a mustard lover but the mustard gave this such a nice flavor, I kept tasting it and adding more. I probably used atleast 1.5 tablespoons, possible 2. This stuff is also wonderful reheated. I couldn't wait to eat it for lunch :)... My small children liked it and so did my husband (im the only low carber)..Adding it to my rotation!

  2. I made this but substituted the tomato sauce & tomatos for beef hotdog chili & cut the carbs down to around 4! awesome recipe! my hubby loved it! will deff make again!

  3. This recipe was very delicious. I had no problems with my son eating this meal and he is always a picky eater. For the non-low carbers in my family, I added fritos, and beans. It was a hit because as someone said in their review, it takes just like a chili dog. I didn't even miss the bun. The only substitution I made was sour cream for the mayonnaise. Other than that, I followed the recipe as instructed. I will make this meal in the future.

  4. We made this as the receipe directed and we would not change a thing! The picture we took does not do this dish justice- it looked as good as it tasted!

  5. While my husband loved this the way it was, I didn't care for the mayo flavoring, but maybe it was the brand I used. A couple days later I made it again using sour cream in place of the mayo plus added about half to two-thirds of a can of diced tomatoes to the dish, now it's my kind of meal. Pretty yummy.

I grew up in Tucson but moved to Colorado in 1989 and live in a household with my husband, Dad, daughter and 3-year old twin granddaughters. Our 8-year old grandson spends 2 nights a week with us. All of that adds up to often difficult menu ideas to met everyone's tastes. Zaar is very addicting and I love trying the recipes I find here. I like to find recipes of people that I see are still active on Zaar and love it when I hear back from the Chef after I review the recipe. Everytime someone reviews one of my recipes, I like to find one of theirs to make and review as quickly as possible. It's a way for me to find great chefs I don't know yet too! My husband has high blood sugar so we try to watch our carbs, but it is not easy because we love them so much! I was diagnosed with brain tumors in 2005 and so far have had 5 surgeries that have left my eyelid droopy. I hope to have a surgery that will correct that soon!! There is still one tumor they have not removed but my wonderful doctor James Garrity at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester MN says they will leave it alone until or if it ever causes problems!
