This recipe (not mine, unfortunately) won 2nd place in a Texas chili cook off!
- 1 lb very coarsely ground venison or 1 lb ground beef
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic
- salt and pepper
- 1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce
- 4 tablespoons chili powder
- 32 ounces water
- Brown the first 4 ingredients in heavy cooking pot.
- Add the last three ingredients and then heat to a hard fast boil.
- Turn down and simmer for 45 minutes.
I left a long-winded review about how I wanted to make this recipe work and see if the naysayers were right or not, but got garbled up three times by processing error..or something. Anyway, all in all this was watery, weak and insipid. I'm really sorry, I hate leaving a negative review, Can't remember if I have before or not, but it bugs me anyway. I'd like to try the base of this and see if I can mebbe tweak it up, but as is, sorry, it's a food wreck of the 1st order.
I believe this recipe won 2nd place in a Texas chili cookoff. Unfortunately, any group of 2 or more can cook chili and call it a cookoff. I don't think this one won at any sanctioned event. Most award winning Texas Chili takes many hours to make. None under an hour. And none this simple. If it was easy, everyone would have an award-winning Texas Chili recipe.
I find it hard to believe that this recipe won an award. It was thin and watery and had a terrible texture. I followed this recipe to the letter and it did not measure up to it's name.
