  • In a small bowl, combine flour and salt; cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Sprinkle with ice water and toss with a fork.
  • Form into a ball.
  • On a lightly floured surface, roll dough into a 7-inch circle.
  • Place apple slices on half of the circle; sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon.
  • Fold dough over filling, sealing edges with fingers or pressing with a fork.
  • Brush with milk.
  • Prick top with a fork.
  • Place on a greased baking sheet.
  • Bake at 375 degrees for 25-30 minute or until golden brown.
  • Combine glaze ingredients until smooth; drizzle over turnover.

  1. Delightful! This is was superb. If you like your apples very tender, toss them in a skillet or saucepan with one tablespoon of butter and the teaspoon of sugar over medium heat for ten minutes while your oven preheats. Pour one tablespoon of water into your apples and remove from heat. Let the apples cool a bit before filling the turnover.

  4. I had a lone apple in the fridge & my husband loves apple desserts! This was so fast & fairly simple. I used butter for shortening & the dough was very easy to work with. I should have sliced the apple a lot thinner; the filling kept spilling out & I had a few slices leftover. Baking time was 30 min & the glaze was wonderful--used honey for the corn syrup since I had none. I hope to make this for him again; is so much easier than making a whole apple pie!! Thanks for sharing!
