Simple Shrimp Tacos
"These delicious shrimp tacos are easy to make and a refreshing change from the usual fish tacos. We really like them with salsa verde."

12 tacos
ingredients
- 12 flour tortillas
- oil (for frying)
- 3 garlic cloves, diced
- 1⁄2 cup salsa
- 1 tablespoon fresh cilantro
- 1⁄2 lb shrimp, chopped
- guacamole, to taste
- sour cream, to taste
- 12 toothpicks
- salt and pepper
directions
- In two tablespoons of oil, fry garlic, salsa, cilantro and shrimp until moisture is absorbed thoroughly, season with salt and pepper and allow to cool.
- Fill tacos and seal each one closed with a toothpick; fry it in hot oil until golden and remove excess oil by placing on a paper towel.
- Serve tacos garnished with guacamole and sour cream, if desired.

I love shrimp burritos but rarely find them at restaurants without being filled up with rice, so I wanted to make my own. I, however, purchased corn tortillas, not flour burrito shells. I made this with the addition of onion and had one tomato to use, so I added it to the mix before I threw in the shrimp. All of my shrimp taco/burrito dreams have come true - excellent! I cooked the onion a bit before, then the tomato, threw in the shrimp (I had the really small ones), then the fresh salsa. I cooked the corn tortillas separately then added the mixture and about 1 teaspoon of mayonnaise-milk-lime juice-cilantro mix (learned of this at local Mexican restaurants) as a dressing. But I could have added lettuce, cheese, or cabbage - all would be great! thanks for posting this super-easy and terrific recipe, Alskann! Great! -
I loved this dish. I have to admit I made a few changes. I used regular taco shells, and I did use the salsa verde as the poster mentioned since I love green chiles. Actually I used 505 brand green enchilada sauce since I had it on hand. The flavor of the shrimp is excellent and the tacos delicious! A very nice different take on tacos! Make for Aussie #17. -

The top photo is my dd, Jacelyn aka FraggleJ and her two boys. She was expecting her daughter when the photo was taken. The other photo is Jacob & grandma :), both were taken last Saturday (03/29/08) while we were climbing a local butte. Those two little boys did an amazingly good job of hiking the steep trail (so did grandma!).

I love to travel! Not only do I get to see new places and meet interesting people - I get to try new food.
