"Adapted from Morey Amsterdam's Benny Cooker Crock Book. Although the title comes from a joke from Amsterdam's night club act, the recipes are all genuine."

• Yields: 4 dozen

ingredients

• 8 ounces liverwurst
• 1 green bell pepper, finely chopped
• 1 dash hot sauce
• 1 onion, finely chopped
• Burgundy wine, as needed
• 48 rye wafers

directions

1. Combine liverwurst, pepper, hot sauce and onion.
2. Mix in wine until mixture is the consistency of a spread.
3. Spread on rye wafers.
