Green Beans With Panch Phoran and Almonds

ingredients
- 1 lb green beans, trimmed and cut into 1 1/2 inch pieces
- 1⁄4 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1 1⁄4 teaspoons panch phoron ($notetemplate1$)
- 1⁄4 medium onion, peeled and sliced
- 3 garlic cloves, peeled and minced
- 1⁄4 teaspoon cayenne
- 1⁄2 teaspoon turmeric
- 1⁄2 lemon, juice of
- 1⁄4 teaspoon black pepper
- salt, to taste
- 3 tablespoons slivered almonds, toasted and chopped
directions
- Fill large pot with enough water to cover the beans and bring to a boil. Add beans and 1/4 tsp salt; boil 3 minutes. Drain and set aside.
- In a large skillet, heat oil over medium heat. Add the panch phoran; stir until it begins to pop, about 30 seconds.
- Add the onion and saute until it begins to brown, about 4 minutes. Add the garlic and cook another 2 minutes. Add the cayenne and turmeric and stir.
- Add drained green beans and lemon juice, stir and cook until beans are heated through, about 2 minutes. Stir in black pepper and salt to taste.
- Put into serving bowl and garnish with toasted almonds.
