  • 2 lbs sirloin steaks, cut into shoestring strips 1/2 inch wide x 3 inches long and rolled in
  • flour
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 (4 ounce) can mushrooms, with liquid
  • 3 tablespoons flour
  • 1 envelope onion soup mix
  • 2 12 cups water
  • 12 cup sour cream

directions

  • Brown beef strips in butter.
  • Remove from skillet.
  • Drain mushrooms, reserving liquid, and saute in drippings in skillet.
  • Remove from skillet.
  • Into drippings stir 3 Tbls flour and soup mix
  • Gradually add water and mushroom liquid, blending well and stirring until thickened.
  • Return meat and mushrooms to skillet, cover, and simmer, stirring from time to time, for about 20 minutes, or until meat is tender.
  • Blend in sour cream and serve over hot egg noodles or boiled potatoes.

  1. A fantastic recipe and loved by all, I used whole fresh button mushroom though instead of tinned and added a little cream to the mix to make the sauce go that little bit further. Highly recommended!
     
  2. Growing up, I remember my grandma always baking it and adding tomato paste, so this is what I did: Added 3 tablespoons of tomato paste when mixing in water, then adding sour cream and baking for 90 minutes - delicious!
     
  3. Prepared this exactly as directed...it didn't turn out like I expected it to--It tasted fine, but the sauce didn't thicken up, and wasn't as creamy as I thought it would be. I had just pictured a creamier dish. But it was a tasty dish, and easy to prepare. Thanks for the recipe. :)

Oh Tweeky.....what a wonderful meal! :-) yummy, yummy....I added some fresh farlic to step #1, because we are garlic lovers and used 1 cup half and half cream to replace some of the water to make it more creamier, I had my steak meat cut up the night before, and ready to go, served it with angel hair pasta... otherwise followed the directions just as stated.....quick and easy, just what I like for weekday meals....I will surely make this again.....thanx for a wonderful recipe :-)
     
  5. I left out the mushrooms because my husband doesn't like them. Otherwise, this meal was very good! Rich and delicious and warms up great in the microwave for lunch at work several days later! Thanks for a great recipe!

  2. score! this ones going into regular dinner rotation. cost about 10 bucks for 11/3 lbs of sirloin, but used a big can of mushrooms instead of the small one. only thing was, setting mushroom liquid and beef aside takes up two more dishes that you have to clean. there must be some way you can keep it all in one pan. this stuff is messy! it gets that soup skin if you leave it, beware. other than that, top rate.
