- 2 (1587.57 g) can red kidney beans (really, really sorry, Ed. We like beans a lot)
- 226.79 g firm tofu
- 29.58 ml olive oil
- 1 medium sweet onion, diced (vidalia, oso, etc.)
- 1 bell pepper, diced (any color)
- 2 stalk celery, diced
- 1 carrot, diced
- 2 jalapeno peppers, chopped (remove the seeds and membrane from one pepper, use other types of hot peppers if you dare!)
- 2 (1587.57 g) can crushed tomatoes
- 170.09 g can tomato paste
- 4-8 garlic cloves, smashed
- salt and pepper
- 29.57 ml orange juice
- 29.57 ml lime juice
- 29.57 ml lemon juice
- 28.34-56.69 g dark chocolate (70% dark preferred)

- 2.46 ml salt
- 4.92 ml black pepper
- 4.92 ml cayenne pepper
- 4.92 ml cumin
- 4.92 ml thyme
- 4.92 ml basil
- 9.85 ml oregano
- 4.92 ml Hungarian paprika
- 9.85 ml Mexican chili powder
- 9.85 ml garlic powder
- 4.92 ml onion powder
- 9.85 ml dried parsley
- 4.92 ml dried cilantro
- 118.29 ml brown sugar
- 118.29 ml cocoa powder
directions
- Assemble the spice mix into an airtight container ahead of time.
- Inside a big, deep pot (about 7 qt), on low heat, slightly brown the tofu.
- Season lightly with salt and pepper.
- SAUTEE/FRY the veggies for a few minutes with the tofu.
- Season the veggies lightly with salt and pepper.
- Make a little space on the bottom of the pan.
- Add the tomato paste
- Cook the paste for a minute, then mix everything in the pot together.
- Add the crushed tomatoes and beans.
- Season with a little salt.
- Stir in the KILLER COCOA CHILI SPICE MIX.
- Keep stirring, keep a very slow boil or a simmer.
- Add Lemon juice, Lime juice, Orange juice.
- Also add the dark chocolate pieces. Let the heat from the chili melt the chocolate and then.
- Set the heat to LOW.
- Partially cover and simmer for about 5-10 minutes.
- TURN OFF THE HEAT.

i followed the recipe just so except i didnt put tofu in. i subbed it for a can of hominy.but this just didnt work for me. it seemed really pretty bland and nothing special. i tried adding a few different spices and things and finally ended with something that was ok but i didnt win the cookoff for sure. it was a lot of work too but it seemed like it would be good and the chocolate was cool and different so i was willing to try. but i guess it just wasnt for me. oh well i'm glad other love it so. thanks

WHAT an interesting combination, Am NOW eating with elation, OK..usually hate when people do, but made some slight changes with what had on hand too! Skipped the tofu...not a fan, ok? Used red onion, tomato paste with pesto...orange, lemon, lime combo MADE MY DAY! Used 3 cans 4 bean mix, TRUE Also 3 cans crushed tomatoes with chilli and papkika too! Basically is same recipe! NEVER would have thought to combine chocolate with chilli...maybe is just me! THANKS! This recipe DOES rock!!
