This is my grandmothers recipe. Still the best recipe I've found.

Subbed 1/8 c molasses (in pan, w/butter) for the brown sugar, used freshly grated nutmeg, and added a tbsp minced candied ginger and a splash of lemon juice. Adjust cooking time according to how thick or thin you slice your apples. Great w/pork, poultry, ice cream or individual handcrafted tarts.

  1. Place apples in a nonstick saucepan with the butter. Cook for several minutes. Add sugars, spices and vanilla and continue cooking until apples are tender, about 20-25 minutes over low heat.
