This is such a wonderful recipe. It is the true essence of italian cooking. The aroma itself is worth the preparation! At first the long list of ingredients intimidated me and I started to pass it by, but on second glance, I decided that it was really not difficult. Instead of making the meatballs, I browned the ground beef (not using the breadcrumbs, egg nor milk), then proceeded to prepare the recipe as directed, adding the ground beef to the sauce and simmering. I prepared it this way because we like a meaty sauce. Next time, I will make the meatballs and add ground beef to the sauce as well as some mushrooms. I plan to prepare a double recipe next time so I will have enough to freeze. DH and I loved this recipe. It will definitely go into my more than 5*'s cookbook! Thank you MizzNezz!

  1. Mix well first 7 ingredients.
  2. Form into small balls.
  3. Brown in dutch oven over med.
  4. heat.
  5. Drain and set aside.
  6. In same pan, cook sausage, onion and green pepper until vegetables are soft.
  7. Add remaining ingredients.
  8. Add meatballs.
  9. Bring to a boil.
  10. Reduce heat, cover and simmer for 2 hours.
  11. Serve over spaghetti, sprinkle with parmesan.
