Sour Cream Biscuits

"I haven't had a chance to try these out yet, let me know what you think. The recipe clipping says it makes 16 biscuits at 8 cents each. Sounds like a good deal."

  • Mix flour, powder, salt and soda in bowl, with pastry blender (or knives) cut in butter.
  • Whisk milk and sour cream in a small bowl until smooth.
  • Add to flour mixture, stir just until dough forms.
  • Knead if necessary to mix.
  • Shape into a disk.
  • Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate at least 30 minutes, up to 2 hours.
  • Heat oven to 425 degrees.
  • Coat large baking sheet with cooking spray.
  • Roll dough out on floured surface 1/2 inch thick.
  • Cut out biscuits with 2 1/2 inch cutter.
  • Place on baking sheet.
  • Reroll scraps; cut.
  • Bake at 425 for 12 minutes until golden brown.

  1. These are amazing & by that I mean much better than any pre-packaged mix, or pre-made oven ready biscuits! As good as they are, they're easy & simple to make!
     
  2. These are good (and rich). Make sure butter is very cold and do not overhandle. I rarely bake biscuits at such a high heat (but maybe that is my oven). I find 400 degrees is ample. These are actually good with butter and jam but definitely not for people on a diet. Indulge....

I love to cook, to feed people and to experiment. Unfortunately I have a very limited audience, so most of my creations are reserved for me alone. My BF is a sort of picky eater and all of my favorites he dislikes, so I'm learning how to get around lots of ingredients. Like mushrooms (so sad), tomatoes and onions... who cooks without onions? In this one way, it's almost a good thing that our schedules allow for only 3 meals a weeks together :-)
