Scrumptious Shepherd's Pie

"Many attempts at Shepherd's Pie have been forced down by my willing gastronomical guinea pigs. Some of these attempts didn't even make it that far. Finally, I cracked the code to a delicious, rustic, and authentic (if you use lamb) Shep... that is nothing short of amazing simplicity."

directions

  • Add ground beef and seasonings to pan over high heat and begin to brown for about three minutes; then add vegetables and continue to saute, reducing heat to medium.
  • When meat is browned, bring heat back to medium high and add Worcestershire, tomato paste, and wine, cooking until nearly evaporated.
  • Add chicken stock and simmer until liquids begin to thicken.
  • Mash potatoes and incorporate egg yolks and Parmesan cheese (salt and pepper to taste).
  • Spread meat and veg mixture in bottom of baking dish, then pipe potatoes on top in approx 2" rounds (you can also spread potatoes and fluff with fork, if needed thin potatoes with some chicken stock). Top with additional Parmesan if desired and bake at 350 for ~20 minutes until potatoes are golden brown.

  1. I made it with lean ground beef. The meat and veggie mixture is so good. The seasonings are perfect. I used Merlot red wine. I didn't use the eggs in the potatoes. My son ate this for his lunch at school and he loved this. He said it's worth 10 stars. Of course, he add ketchup on top. Thanks AlmightyMooX :) Made for the Best of 2011 tag game

  2. This has become my go to recipe for Shepherds pie. I used ground meat and added frozen peas to the pie at the end before baking. I also used some Tony's brown gravy mix sprinkled on to thicken and season the gravey. It is unusual that I find a recipe that I don't add a lot of seasoning to, this was one. The seasoning was very good, even for this spicy family. The wine gave it a fantastic flavor that was missing from what I had made before. This was wonderful, and I will be making it often. Great Recipe.

There are not a lot of spices in this one but yet you don't miss them. <br/>As for making it I so enjoyed how easy it was. I chose to add pees & Corn to our dish.
