This is a childhood favorite of mine. Aunt Phyllis made her famous biscuits and this Chocolate Syrup was served warm over the biscuits. This one is different from any I've seen here on Zaar. It's more of a syrup than a gravy. I recently got her to tell me how to make this. Now I make it for my boys to enjoy! It's so simple and delicious.
- Heat sugar, milk, cocoa in saucepan over medium-high heat to a boil. (Don't let it boil too long).
- Remove from heat, add butter and vanilla.
- Serve over biscuits.
Oh my! This brought back so many wonderful childhood memories from grandma's house. I have always loved chocolate syrup and biscuits but never could get the recipe. My mom and grandmother do not measure when baking so I could never figure out how much of each ingredient to use. I must have stood and watched a hundred times to see if I could figure it out. This is almost a perfect match. Thank you so much!
I FINALLY was able to duplicate my fiance's favorite childhood breakfast thanks to your recipe!! He has talked about this for YEARS and I never knew how to do it. Thanks for sharing and helping me bring back some of his childhood memories!!
My DH was from Arkansas originally and when we married, his mother had to show me how to make "chocolate gravy" which is close to this, but we use a little cornstarch and milk to thicken the mixture ala "gravy"! My children are all in their 30's now and will still bring someone around to try my chocolate gravy. It was a real pleasure to see this posted here and by the way - don't forget to butter the biscuit!
