Green Beans With Water Chestnuts

Love those water chestnuts they spruce up so many dishes. Do not over cook the beans

  1. Bring a pot of salted water to a boil, add beans and cook for 6-8 minutes.
  2. Melt the butter/margarine in a skillet, add onion and saute for 7 minutes, stirring.
  3. Stir in salt, mace and water chestnuts; saute 2 minutes.
  4. Add beans and saute until heated through.

A nice change of pace that fancies up green beans (I steamed mine). The mace gives a nice hint of flavour to it and the novelty of water chestnuts is a treat.

I agree with you, Bergy....those water chestnuts really do jazz up many veggies. This a great example. I loved the bit of mace and the crunchiness of the water chestnuts mixed with the green beans. I had almost 1 1/2 lbs of beans, but kept all the other amounts the same. These will be a part of my holiday table! Thanx for posting!
