Green Beans With Panch Phoran and Almonds

"Panch phoran is an Indian (Bengali) spice/seed mix. Purcahse it in an Indian spice shop or use recipe #482606. Use freshest green beans you can find. Great served with Dal or curries."

  • Fill large pot with enough water to cover the beans and bring to a boil. Add beans and 1/4 tsp salt; boil 3 minutes. Drain and set aside.
  • In a large skillet, heat oil over medium heat. Add the panch phoran; stir until it begins to pop, about 30 seconds.
  • Add the onion and saute until it begins to brown, about 4 minutes. Add the garlic and cook another 2 minutes. Add the cayenne and turmeric and stir.
  • Add drained green beans and lemon juice, stir and cook until beans are heated through, about 2 minutes. Stir in black pepper and salt to taste.
  • Put into serving bowl and garnish with toasted almonds.
