Easy Bread and Jam Dessert

"My family always called this "bread pudding," but it's really more like a simple trifle. The number of servings is a guess; everybody always wanted more helpings! Prep time does not include chilling time."

  • 1 pint whipping cream
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 16 ounces white bread, sliced (1 loaf)
  • 14 lb butter (no substitutes)
  • 1 (12 ounce) jar raspberry jam

  • Whip the cream with the sugar.
  • Remove crusts from bread.
  • Butter the bread slices on one side only.
  • Lay several slices of bread in a large bowl, butter side up.
  • Spread some of the jam over the buttered bread.
  • Spread some of the whipped cream over the jam.
  • Repeat layering with remaining ingredients. The last layer of bread should be butter side down.
  • Cover with plastic wrap and chill for at least 2 hours.
  • Serve with additional sweetened whipped cream.
