Crabapple Preserves

"I have been looking for this recipe for years. My grandmother made them and I didn't get the recipe before she past away. I was looking in one of her cookbooks, and there it was!!! They taste like the ones she made."

  • crabapple (alot!!! There is no measurement)
  • 6 cups sugar
  • 3 cups water

directions

  • Wash and remove blossom end.
  • Leave stems on.
  • Do not peel!
  • Make syrup with sugar and water.
  • bring to boil.
  • Boil for 5 minutes.
  • Add apples to syrup.
  • boil until apples are tender and transparent.
  • Fill hot jars with fruit and syrup to 1/2 inch of top.
  • put on canning lids.
  • Process in hot water bath for 15 minutes.

  1. Yum... this is a terrific recipe. Like MF, my grandmother used to make it and I was able to get the recipe from an aunt after my grandmother's death. However, my grandmother used to add one cinnamon stick and 1 tbsp of whole cloves while mixture boiled... perfect for those cool autumn mornings!
     
  2. Great recipe, my mother in law used to make this in smaller quantity, we didn't can it, just serve it in a dish with home made bread for supper or dessert .
     
  3. So excited to have found this recipe! It is very good, and so simple! I made this as the recipe stated and the crabapples have enough flavor that it truly didn't need any spices, although that would be great too!

I am a mother of two childeren. I live on farm in Notrh Dakota. We plant small grains and row crops. We also have some beef cattle. I have a few chickens for eggs and I just love to watch them run around looking for some food. I love to garden, vegys and flowers. I work part-time at a nursing home, but right now I took some time of for calving season. I also love to preserve my own vegys from the garden.
