  1. Made this pie for Thanksgiving with my nine-year-old daughter. Used a vanilla graham cracker crust. You need to take your time making sure the filling thickens before filling the shell. Pie was the hit of Thanksgiving. filling was firm with strong chocolate flavor, meringue and vanilla crust were perfect complements to make an excellent dessert.

  2. For someone who has never made a chocolate pie, this is not a great starter recipe. I tried to make this today & my pudding never thickened, despite having rigorously followed all directions. If someone who has successfully made this could update the recipe with actual cooking times (for example - how long is one expected to cook the mixture on the stove? I spent almost an hour to no avail.) As a consequence, the pie was runny and I can't serve this to my guests. Very disappointing.

  3. This is a wonderful homemade pie to make for the family. One little thing we all found distracting was the overwhelming taste of the vanilla in the pudding. I know that next time I make this I'll be using more like one teaspoon of vanilla instead of a tablespoon - it really took away from the flavors of the whole pie. I made a homemade graham cracker crust for this dish. Be patient while cooking the pudding - it does take a while to cook on low but it is well worth the time as it comes out very smooth instead of lumpy if you cook it on low for a long while. 4. DD made a request for thick pudding so I made this minus the pastry shell and it was fabulous on its own and would be wonderful in a pie. Addictive and rich - a great chocolate fix.
