  1. The cookies turned out nicely in shape and maintained a soft center. The shortening lent to this not having as much flavor as I'm used to getting with butter. I'd recommend using butter flavored shortening.

  2. I just finished baking this cookies, they're delicious. I followed the recipe exactly and they turned out really good, chewy inside, crispy outside. My husband and I loved them (he likes soft cookies and I like crispy cookies) It was a nice middle ground cookie for us.

  3. I have been searching for a recipe that gave me a moist cookie yet was firm not gooey. These are perfect!!! I made one alteration because I am an evil mother...I used 2 cups unbleached flour and 1 c whole wheat. But I don't think it really changes the recipe except to give it a slightly nutty flavor. On the last batch I added macadamia nuts and I may not share those ones with the children. This is my go to recipe!!!

  4. I make these cookies all the time! Everyone eats them faster than I can make them. I bake them at 350 for eleven minutes, I like my cookies soft. This recipe makes the PERFECT cookie! I'm never going to use another cookie recipe again. :)

  5. I chose this recipe because it had a 5 star rating. For 60 years, I've baked chocolate chip cookies and this recipe is the last one I ever try. It is 5 star! I don't ever want to lose it. Yum

Tweaks

  1. These cookies have a great flavor & texture. They have a bit more of a cakey texture but they still have some chewiness with crispy edges & the inside is moist. My husband prefers chewy cookies but he still downed 3 of these in one sitting! I did make some alterations to try to keep the calories & sugar down. If anything, they would only be better without these so I think they still deserve the 5 star rating! I used 6 Tbsp shortening, 3/4 cup plus 2 Tbsp margarine, egg substitute, and Splenda sugar blends for both sugars. I did a full tablespoon of vanilla because we love it. I have no doubt these cookies will be disappearing quickly. That just means I'll be making it again soon! :) Thanks for sharing!

  2. These cookies were great! I didn't have any shortening so I used butter for that and also used walnuts instead of pecans. My husband said they were the best chocolate chip cookies he has ever had. Slightly crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside. Perfect!

  3. This is my second time making these and this time I used milk chocolate chips and hazelnuts instead of the pecans and they were to die for. I'm going to stick with this version of these from now on!

  4. GREAT SCOTT!!! This is too good! I did substitute the shortening and the butter for 1 1/3 cups of Butter Flavored Crisco and they were Fantastic! A Real keeper!

  5. I was going to post my chocolate chip cookie recipe and was glad I didn't, there would have been a duplicate! :) This is my favorite as well I've been making them since I could stir. I've used butter in place of the shortening and their still fantastic. I also omit the salt. Tip: for flatter cookies blend with a hand mixer, for big "puffy" cookies (my fav) stir with a spoon.

You can follow my food journey at <a href=http://onecookbookatathyme.wordpress.com/>http://onecookbookatathyme.wordpress.com/</a></p> <p>Cooking for family and friends is one of my favorite things to do. I spend most of my free time in the kitchen, either checking out Recipezaar or experimenting with a newly found recipe. <br /><br />My DH and I are both from Texas and we both come from Italian families. Anyone who stops by my house should be prepared to eat!!! I'm always forcing friends and family to try whatever it is that just came out of the oven. I know that is a horrible habit but I can't break it... I think it must be the Italian in me! LOL :) <br /><br />My sister (<a href=http://www.recipezaar.com/browse/getchef.zsp?id=85654>Cookin_Kit</a>) and I used to help my Mom (<a href=http://www.recipezaar.com/browse/getchef.zsp?id=124343>JudaThann</a>) in the kitchen a lot growing up. I guess that is where my love for cooking began. I also enjoy sharing the kitchen with my DH (<a href=http://www.recipezaar.com/browse/getchef.zsp?id=202688>Sgt. Pepper</a>). He doesn't cook as often as he did when we first got married, but he makes an awesome pizza and still makes them at least twice a month. He keeps his recipes for the dough and the sauce top secret, even from me. LOL <br /><br />I have two step-children. The oldest graduated from college and the youngest is a sophomore at Texas Tech. I also have two cats and a dog. When I?m not cooking or hanging out here at Zaar, I like to knit, garden, read, watch old movies, travel, take photos, scrapbook, volunteer at a non-kill animal shelter, and spend time with my family and friends. <br /><br /><img src=http://images.snapfish.com/34359%3C8323232%7Ffp47%3Dot%3E232%3A%3D8%3A3%3D429%3DXROQDF%3E23237%3C2733%3B9%3Bot1lsi alt= /> <br /><br />I'm a co-host with <a href=http://www.recipezaar.com/browse/getchef.zsp?id=21399>Karen From Colorado</a> in the <a href=http://www.recipezaar.com/bb/viewforum?f=37>Mexican/Tex-Mex/Southern United States Cooking Forum</a>.
