directions

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Mix all ingredients together, except the bread slices and Sauce. Shape into a loaf. Line a 1 1/2-quart loaf pan with the bread slices. Place meatloaf on top. Bake loaf for 1 hour and 15 minutes. The bread absorbs the grease and should be discarded after loaf is removed from oven.
  • For the sauce: Heat the soup and milk over medium heat; add the cheese. Add the chopped onions and parsley to the sauce, if desired. Pour Sauce over the meatloaf or pass at the table.

  1. This is exceptional!! It is without a doubt the best meatloaf that I've ever eaten. I LOVE meatloaf and this is the best. My family likes it, too. I think that the Ritz crackers are the key to this-yum! The bread does really soak up the grease. Wish I'd have thought of that trick years ago! The sauce is very good, too. Actually, the last time that I served this, my husband put the bowl of sauce in front of him and proceeded to put crackers in it---he thought it was cheese soup.!!! He said that it was good that way!!! Oh brother!

  2. I have made this meatloaf several times. Paula Deen's recipes are always delicious. It turned me into a meatloaf fan. It is good!! I serve it with mashed potatoes, and use the sauce on both the meatloaf and potatoes. Thanks for posting the recipe here.

  3. This is for the meatloaf recipe only since I didn't make the sauce. This was a really great tasting meatloaf. I used a finely shredded colby/jack cheese. The only thing I did differently was add and egg and use only 1 T of worcestershire sauce because that seemed like plenty to me. This turned out very moist and tender. Next time may use red bell pepper and try the sauce. A Keeper--Thanks for posting!

  4. Everyone loved this amazing meat loaf! Bread at the bottom of the pan is a great tip. The sauce is simple and makes enough to smother your mashed potatoes and broccoli, too! I omitted the green pepper because of fussy kids, used lowfat sour cream and Condensed Soup Mix Recipe #25653 instead of the cream of mushroom. By the way, there's a recipe posted on Zaar for Paula Deen's House Seasoning Recipe #57340. Thanks, jovigirl, for a wonderful meal!!!

  5. I've made this several times and we love it. I do not use the same cheddar cheese sauce recipe. You can subsititute the ingredients with low fat ones and the bread lining the pan is such a great idea. Great recipe
