I have to say this was the best looking stew I have made.I did thicken it with a bit of cornstarch.and added some garlic. it was very easy to make."but" it had a bad taste for us. perhaps, it was the soy sauce.I will try again, with out the soy sauce.Than I think it might be good. Thanks,Ange191805 for a good start.

Really good stew! Hubby even liked it and he's not a fan of stew. I coated the stew meat with flour, browned it in some olive oil and then added it to the crock pot instead of adding the flour directly. I also added frozen corn 1 hour before it was done and mixed a little corn starch with water and put a little into the stew to thicken. Didn't need a whole lot since it only needed a little thickening. Yum Yum! This was so easy & good! Will definately make again!

This was the best beef stew I ever made and my husband says it was the best he has ever eaten. I left out the soy sauce, added about 3 cups of water and cooked it on the stove 1 1/2 hours then added carrots, potatoes, frozen corn and frozen green beans and cooked another 45 min. I also added a little salt, red pepper flakes, italian seasoning and cajun seasoning. I thicken the sauce at the end with a little cornstarch. I made alot of changes but the base of beef stock and tomato sauce was the key.

Not bad. I took the reviewers advice and omitted the soy sauce; however, it came out really bland. So, I added low-sodium soy sauce once it was done cooking and that gave it some flavor. I also added garlic, but feel it could use some chopped green bell pepper too. I added some corn starch, but it's still watery...needs a LOT of corn starch to make the sauce thicker. It definitely needed the full 8 hours b/c the potatoes & carrots were still a bit firm after 7 hours. Overall, not bad for someone who is not a fan of stew.
