ingredients
- 2 head cabbage, shredded
- 236.59 ml white sugar, 2 tbsp removed and reserved
- 1 onion, chopped
- 29.58 ml sugar, from reserve
- 1.23 ml salt
- 4.92 ml dry mustard
- 4.92 ml celery seed
- 236.59 ml white vinegar or 236.59 ml cider vinegar
- 177.44 ml salad oil, vegetable oil to those not southern
directions
- Combine shredded cabbage, sugar (less 2 tbsp), and onion.
- Bring to a boil in a saucepan the remaining ingredients and pour over cabbage mixture. Chill at least 24 hours.
- NOTE: This was my great-grandmother's recipe, and I've never had a problem boiling the oil, but if you don't think it's a good idea, then heat the other ingredients to a boil and add the oil when you take it off the heat.
