Grandmom Arlene's Sloppy Joes

"My family used to own a family restaurant, way before my time. Some of the recipes that have been passed down, melt in your mouth. They are a perfect combination of PA Dutch and family comfort food. This is one of those recipes! This also does really well with being frozen and saved for trips, picnics, or days you don't want to cook. I usually double the recipe and freeze the leftovers. Happy Cooking!"

directions

  • Chop up all vegetables.
  • brown meat in a little bit of butter. Drain oil or fat if needed from the browned meat.
  • Add all ingredients into one large pan.
  • Simmer Uncovered for 2 hours until thick.
  • Feel free to taste and season to your desire as it simmers after an hour. It all takes time to blend together to get its true flavor. I like to add a bit more vinegar and worcestershire sauce to add a kick.

I am a self-declared train wreck in the kitchen. As a teenager, I told my mother that I was going to marry a man that cooks. Sure enough that prophecy came true. The issue is- I love food. I LOVE to bake. After becoming a mom this year, I have decided to learn to cook. So far, I have not burned down the kitchen or given my family food poisoning! All steps in the right direction. To my husband's amazement I am cooking beautiful dishes, and to my amazement, I am enjoying it!
