Presidential Cherry Crisp

"I make this classic Betty Crocker recipe every President's Day for my family. I know. George Washington didn't chop down a cherry tree, but I cannot tell a lie. This recipe is just the thing to warm you on a cold winter night. It is especially nice with a scoop of vanilla ice cream melting into it."

  • Spray a square pan (8x8) with non-stick spray and empty the can of cherries into it.
  • In a small bowl, mix the remaining ingredients thoroughly. Sprinkle over cherries. (There seems to be a lot, but use it all. It shrinks while cooking.).
  • Bake 30 minutes at 375 degrees.

  1. I made this for dessert as a treat for my husband and I. Wow, this was really good. It doesn't get any easier than this. I followed the recipe exactly as written and I honestly don't think I'd change a thing. Even the bake time/temp was perfect. I served this with a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream while it was still hot... Delish! This one will definitely be made again. :) Thank you! (Tagged for Think Pink '09)

  2. Very good and very easy! I made this on election night and served it with Recipe #321236; my fiance and I enjoyed a real election-night-theme dinner as we watched the results come in. The only change I made was to the cherries themeselves -- I prefer a more tart, "natural" cherry flavor (and always thing there's too much gooey syrup in regular cherry pie filling), so I added a can of *tart* cherries, drained of course, to the can of pie filling. Even then, it was a bit sweet for my taste. Next time I'll probably cut down on the sugar in the topping too. BUT, it had a great flavor, and even my fiance who doesn't normally care much for cherries loved this. Thanks for posting it!

  3. DH loved this cherry crisp and it was very tasty warm with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream. I used a store brand can of pie cherries and they worked out great. Will definitely make this again! Made and reviewed for the Election Tag Game 2008.

  4. Made this to take to a friend's and it got rave reviews. I used frozen cherries so they were a little watery. Next time I'd either drain the juice or add more flour.
