Weiner Bean Pot Casserole

"My mom would make this for us every Saturday growing up; we loved it!!! I made it for my husband when we first got married, and he still asks for it all the time... It's SOOO easy!"

• Ingredients: 8
• Serves: 6

ingredients

• 2 (16 ounce) cans pork & beans
• 1⁄3 cup catsup
• 2 tablespoons brown sugar
• 10 hot dogs, sliced
• 1 (1 1/4 ounce) envelope dry onion soup mix
• 1⁄4 cup water
• 1 tablespoon prepared mustard
• hot sauce (optional)

directions

1. Mix all ingredients together. Bake uncovered for 1 hour at 350 degrees in a 2 quart casserole or equivalent square or rectangular pan.
2. Note: I have also made this vegetarian and vegan by substituting soy hot dogs and vegetarian baked beans and replacing the onion soup mix with dried minced onions, garlic powder and salt.

This recipe has potential for goodness, I'm sure...maybe if I had cut the brown sugar and mustard (which overpowered the dish) & instead of the turkey dogs I used - use nathans or kielbasa?

Loved this. We called this Franks & Beans growing up. I really liked the addition of the onion soup mix. Couldn't believe the difference it made. This recipe is perfect for when you don't feel like cooking. It is just so easy! Thanks for the recipe!

This is a very tasty, quick and easy mid-week meal. Perfect after a long hard day at work when you would rather not toil for long in the kitchen. This was enjoyed by the whole family. My substitution was replacing hot dogs with one pound of polish sausage, sliced. It was simply awesome; full of flavor. This recipe would work as well with other spiced sausages such as kielbasa, cocktail wieners etc. It would also be a welcome dish at a potluck or picnic. i e-mailed this recipe to my son in VT who is a vegeterian. he made it with Not Dogs and vegetaterian beasn and loved the recipe!!! it is now his "speciality dish". per Josh, this recipe "ROCKS"

I destest pork & beans, but my husband loves them! So, I gave it a try, and now I make the suggestion to have "weiners and beans" once a week. Great recipe, I love it!
