  • Cream together sugar and the butter.
  • Add the vanilla.
  • Add the milk and beat on a medium speed until it is a spreading consistency.
  • If needed add additional milk, 1 teaspoon at a time until desired consistency is reached.
  • Tint with food coloring pastes-- be cautious, a little goes a long way.

  1. This is a great basic frosting recipe. Good for making birthday cakes with really sweet icing. Since my daughter is allergic to milk, I substituted Rich's whip. It was very creamy and smooth.
     
  2. The perfect compliment to Paige's Sour Cream Cut-Out Cookies! I added a dash of salt to cut the sweetness and used a bit more milk to make the consistancy a little easier to spread. We had plenty of frosting to decorate 3 dozen cookies in four different colors. Thanks, taylortwo, for a great combination!

Tweaks

  1. OMG! So amazing.... and easy... I accidently used double the butter so i made a double batch... Loads of icing to use now! I used almond extract instead of vanilla and it is deeeeeelicious! I will use this recipe for special occasions from now on!!!!!! highly reccomended... Now if my dd and i can only keep our fingers out of it till the cake is out of the oven... lol
