Hot Apple Cider Spiked With Calvados Apple Brandy

"Grown-up hot apple cider. Perfect for a cold winter day. My recipe actually calls for mulling spice, however, RecipeZaar does not recognize it as an ingredient. Use 3-4 tablespoons mulling spice in place of allspice, cloves, cinnamon sticks and orange rind, if available. Use good quality fresh apple cider (not apple juice.) This would also make a nice cocktail if cooled and served over ice."

ingredients

• 1 gallon good quality apple cider (found in produce section)
• 2 cups apple brandy (such as Calvados)

• Mulling Spice

• 2 teaspoons whole allspice
• 1⁄2 teaspoon whole cloves
• 2 cinnamon sticks, broken in half
• 2 orange strips (3 x 1-inch)

directions

1. Bring cider to simmer over medium heat.
2. Add mulling spice (using cheesecloth or large tea ball). Mull for 15 minutes over medium-low heat. Remove.
3. Stir in brandy. Serve.

I didn't use this recipe but I did make mulled cider (w/ orange, lemon, cinnamon, cloves & allspice) and spiked it with homemade Apple Brandy and it was DELICIOUS!!! I saw this recipe after but figured I'd rate it since you can't really go wrong with Hot Spiked Cider and Apple Brandy!

Absolutely fantastic. Made a trip to the apple orchard where they make their own apple cider in front of their customers. None the less, the extra flavoring of the cinnamon and apple brandy especially made this fantastic. The spice in this was super. Have to make another trip to the orchard again. Made for PRMR tag.
