We thought this was great, so easy to make and very tasty. Why fuss with adding juice when you don't have to? We bought a cheap bottle of red wine (no need to use the good stuff for mulled wine), used whole cloves and cinnamon sticks and added a few cardamom pods for good measure. Thanks for a simple recipe that really tastes like Christmas.

I was going to post my recipe but it is so similar to this I didn't bother. Only using water is much easier than using juice I think. I use 1 litre bottle of cheap supermarket plonk, half a liter of water, prick about 10 cloves into an orange, cut the orange in half and put both halves in with the wine. I use a real cinnamon stick as that has a nicer richer flavour. Also, I NEVER boil the wine as that reduces the alcohol content which kind of seems pointless to me.

I tried all different recipes, but this one was the closest to what I'd got hooked on in UK! And...wine is just NOT my 'thing'! After the 3rd time I made it I got adventurous and added some pear juice. It completely changed the taste.. made it a whole lot smoother and took away the 'bite'. Was delicious, but the original is still my favourite!!
