Dirt Cake III

"This is a joke, a bit of whimsy to lighten up your next party. The cake is really a quick mix dessert made with Oreo cookies and soft squishy stuff. The trick is to capture everyone's attention with an announcement of some sort, and as you are speaking, trowel out some of the dirt from the flower pot around the flowers and eat it. May be followed by a worm dug out of the "dirt"."

• Serves: 12

ingredients

• 1 flower pot
• 1 garden trowel
• 3 gummy worms
• 1 bunch plastic flowers
• 16 ounces Oreo cookies
• 1⁄2 cup butter, softened
• 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
• 1 cup confectioners' sugar
• 1 teaspoon vanilla
• 2 packets instant chocolate fudge pudding
• 3 cups milk
• 12 ounces whipped topping, 1 tub thawed

directions

1. You may substitute vanilla pudding for the chocolate if you want, and use up to 20 oz of Oreos.
2. Please use a clean new plastic flower pot or take the precaution of lining a clay pot with foil and wrap the stems of live flowers if you use them in order to prevent any toxins from entering the dessert.
3. Crush the cookies until they resemble potting soil.
4. Set aside.
5. Cream the butter or margarine, cream cheese, sugar and vanilla until smooth and fluffy.
6. Set aside.
7. Combine the pudding mix and milk until well blended.
8. Then fold in the whipped topping.
9. Gently fold the cream cheese and pudding mixtures together.
10. To put the "cake" together, layer one-third of the cookie crumbs followed by 1/2 of the pudding mixture, 1/3 of the crumbs, the rest of the pudding mixture and topping with the balance of the crumbs.
11. Refrigerate 10-12 hours before serving.
12. Remove from refrigerator, decorate with flowers.
13. Serve by digging out portions with the trowel.

This recipe is fun and easy to make. I change the flowers depending on the season. In the summer time I use Vienna Fingers or chocolate chip cookies instead of the Oreos to make the "dirt" look more like "sand". I replace the flower pot with a child's beach bucket and shovel.

I made this cake for our family Easter get-to-gether. The kids loved it and everyone thought it looked like part of the table decor. I will be making this again.

This is a great idea, easy to make and always delicious. I'm not a huge chocolate fan so I used one package of french vanilla pudding and one of chocolate. I then made each mixture and split in half keeping the french vanilla and chocolate seperate. I put the chocolate on the bottom layer and the vanilla on the top and it was wonderful!
