Ready In:
8hrs 2mins

  • 6 onions (white, Vidalia, your choice)
  • 2 (10 ounce) cans beef consomme
  • 2 (14 ounce) cans beef broth
  • 1 (1 ounce) package of dry french onion dip mix (use 2 if you like it REALLY oniony)

  • Slice or chop onions, then mix all of the above in a crock pot and set it for 8 hours.
  • Eat.
  • Or if you want to get fancy, serve it this way: add one slice of dry crusty french bread into each bowl and pour soup over the bread into the bowl. Cover with Gruyere or Jarlsberg Cheese and put under the broiler for about 2 minutes until cheese bubbles and gets a little brown.

  1. This is the most tasteless soup I have ever made/eaten. A total waste of ingredients and time
  2. Delicious and TOO easy! I had large, softball sized onions, and a small 2 qt crock pot, so I cut the recipe in half, and just used 1 onion. It was superb and simple! Thanks, Mimi!
  3. Although I'm sure it enhances the flavor of this soup, the French onion dip mix is probably the culprit contributing to the excessively high sodium content of this recipe.
  4. nice to wake up to!!
  5. Oh, this is awesome! I put some garlic, a diced jalapeno, and sliced portobello stems for extra flavour.

Very busy nanny/au pair, working for a very rich and snooty family, in a very large home, in a very snooty village. Just in case my employer comes here, please don't ask where I am from, or I'll be sacked like the last nanny was. ;-) I take care of 4 gorgeous, and darling kids. 3 girls and a boy. The boy is the youngest (and my favorite). They are great children, very, very active. (Hyper) I love to cook. I guess that's a given, why else would I be here. Part of my job is also to prepare meals for the family. The more they like my food, the longer I get to stay. (just a little joke) On my day off, I usually go out to the cinema or some dance clubs with the other au pairs in this town. That's about it I think.
