Cold Dog Salad

"A cold pasta salad using everything on a hotdog but the bun! Works great on a bed of lettuce as a meal or as a side dish for a picnic."

• Serves: 6-8

ingredients

• 8 hot dogs (any variety)
• 1 (15 ounce) can kidney beans, rinsed
• 1⁄2 lb penne pasta
• 1⁄4 cup brown mustard
• 1⁄4 cup ketchup
• 1⁄4 cup relish
• 1⁄2 teaspoon chili powder

directions

1. Cook pasta according to directions and set aside.
2. Cut hotdogs on the diagonal into 1/4 inch pieces and combine in a mixing bowl with the chilli powder until pieces are evenly coated.
3. In a pan on high heat, brown both/all sides of the dogs.
4. Add hotdogs to the pasta with the beans and remaining condimants and cool in refrigerator for 4 hours. Could also be served hot I suppose.
5. Try adding chopped tomatoes too. Also good to try without ketchup and adding saurkraut and extra mustard.

Really liked this, and what a cute idea. Would be fun for a picnic with burgers. I like the idea of main dish salads and this was nice with the beans also. The one thing that I did change was to add about 1/2 cup of mayo and reduced the ketchup and mustard to about a tablespoon each. I thought that was really nice. I'm not sure if I would like the sauce otherwise.
