This had decent taste but it made a very small, misshapen loaf. I had to add some water when my machine beeped and I even added an extra 1/2 teaspoon of yeast after reading the reviews and the loaf was still dense and tiny. I may try this again and double the recipe as stated but as it is written it is obviously incorrect.

After reading the reviews, I doubled the recipe. I used 3 cups plain flour and 1 cup bran, as I didn't have any wholewheat. I was generous with the sage and yeast, and substituted half the milk with water. The loaf collapsed slightly, and is quite dense but nice crisp crust. The sage was extremely subtle. It toasts well. Nice loaf.

I really like this bread, but it was missing something for me to absolutely llllllove it.... I agree with the other post that I should have doubled the recipe because it produced a very small loaf. (I wasn't sure what to expect because it has been a long time since I used my machine.) I also increased the sage to 1/2 teaspoon and it gave it a nice flavor- I love sage. The cornmeal gave it a nice hearth-y texture and the crust was nice and crisp. (I set my machine to medium crust and baked on the "wheat" setting.) I think I would have REALLY loved if it were a bit fluffier, rather than as dense as it was- but overall the flavor and texture were really nice. Thanks for sharing!

Crusty and hearty bread that's tender inside. Loved the whole wheat with the addition of cornmeal. Not much flavor from the small amount of sage. Used butter rather than shortening, otherwise followed the recipe exactly. I wavered between four and five stars on this one, but have a new Zo bread machine and am giving the recipe the benefit of the doubt. Due to the size of my bread machine pan, I'd probably double the recipe next time. Also wondered if the yeast should be increased. Definitely worth a go, and I'd make it again.
