  1. This recipe was a Pillsbury Bake off winner in the mid 1960's and I made it several times. Always good! I varied it some by using French Apple pie filling and when I could no longer get that, I just tossed in some soaked raisins. It is not supposed to be a spicy cake, gust GOOD and the sour cream topping really adds a nice touch.

  2. Although this was easy to make, I just didn't think it was anything special.

  3. I thought this was very good. I did not make the topping because I did not have the sour cream. For that reason, I added about 1/3 cup more sugar to the cake. I also found it cooked in about 20 minutes as opposed to the stated 40-45. It makes a big moist cake. Thanks for the post.

  4. Delicious cake! This was so moist and rich. I just made it and served it warm and my bh loves this cake too. I added more walnuts because we love them. The icing takes a while to make due to all off the stirring before it finally comes to a boil but it is worth it. It really is an easy cake to make though. This is a keeper. Thank you very much for posting it.

I have been a Central Illinois resident all my life. My hobbies include fishing with my husband, reading, counted cross stitch, and of course, cooking (especially baking)! I currently work in an office, behind a desk, pushing paper. My dream would be to open my own bakery. Spending time in the kitchen is very relaxing to me, and it keeps me connected to my domestic side!
