These were very good and not too sweet--but very, very rich. I had a hard time making them, though, in that the mascarpone filling was very liquidy and light while the chocolate batter was thick and heavy. When I went to spread the batter over the filling, it just sank down into it. So I ended up with the filling and batter kind of swirled together on top. They were very rich and moist and fudgy, yet light at the same time, not dense. DH loved them--he loves chocolate but not sweet things, so they were terrific for him. Thanks for posting, Courtly! I followed the recipe, but doubled the espresso, as I really like a strong coffee flavor... however, I could not really taste any coffee flavor whatsoever. Bummer! But other than that, these brownies were incredible! Great alongside my cup of espresso!

Very rich with a strong espresso flavor. If you like the flavor of coffee and chocolate together, go for it! I should have cooked it for a little longer than the recommended time though. They came out kind of gooey & messy. I will make again but I'll probably save my money and use cream cheese instead since the marscapone it isn't a very noticeable flavor in the brownies as it is in traditional tiramisu.
