Sweet BBQ Meatballs

"I know tons of people that make this for parties and get-togethers and they are always a hit because they are so good and easy! I wanted to make this to, so between internet searching and my sister-in-law this is what I came up with. My sister-in-law said she adds water but I like the sauce to be thicker, so this can be up to you. Since it is going into the slow cooker, it is going to loosen up as it cooks anyways. Note: Everything will fit into a 2 quart slow cooker."

  1. Made these meatballs using 1 lb. store bought frozen meatballs, plus 1-1/4 lbs. of frozen home-made meatballs. The bbq sauce I used in this recipe was, Sweet Baby Rays Sweet 'N Spicy, plus I used Welch's Concord Grape Jam. I cooked the meatballs for 2 hrs & 20 minutes, and served them with some mashed taters and brussel sprouts. When I reheated the leftover meatballs, I added a pinch of dried red pepper flakes to them, and they tasted great!

  2. A similar recipe has been making the party circles for years and is always a huge hit. Original recipe calls for grape jelly and chili sauce. Not as sweet and better for calorie counters. Great with Little Smokies sausages as well.

  3. Easy and simple recipe. I had my doubts with the grape jelly. I was like what? Noway! That couldn't be right. Then I found other recipes with the same basic ingredients and was like ohhh ok. Gave it a go and added my own flare and delicious! I used KC Masterpiece and added 1/2 tsp of red pepper flakes, a bit of salt and pepper too. Great recipe! Thank you!

  4. I have been looking for the perfect meatball recipe for awhile now and have found it here! I made my own meatballs in a skillet instead of prepackaged and added onion in with the sauce and they were a hit! No leftovers! Will be making it for the office xmas party coming up soon. DELICIOUS

  5. I added in a few red chili peppers and the contrast between the sweet and spicy was great!

Tweaks

  1. I have made this recipe many many times - instead of BBQ sauce, I use a bottle of Heinz Chili Sauce. Always a hit even with fussy children. Freezes really well. A 5 star winner
