  1. I did not use italian sausage, because I cannot stand the fennel seeds in it, so I used regular ground sausage....like what pizza hut uses...I love that. Also, I used fresh muchrooms insead of canned. And...I simmered it all day on the stove instead of in the crock pot. It was really good, and ideal for a cold winter day. Thanks for posting!

  2. Made this for dinner tonight with a few slight changes to make it fit into my diet plan a little better. First off, I used Hot Italian Sausage but used only 1/2 the amount called for in the recipe. I also used fresh mushrooms in place of canned because of a personal preference. I doubled the amount of bell pepper and mushrooms to give the soup a little more substance, and I added a clove of garlic. I topped the soup with a little fresh mozzarella and 3 herb croutons before taking it to the table. Everyone in the family enjoyed this recipe...even the pickiest of them. I am thankful to have a little leftover for lunch next week. Thanks for posting Weekend Cooker. Made and reviewed for the 44th AUS/NZ Recipe Swap.
