- 3 cups flour
- 1 1⁄2 teaspoons salt
- 1 1⁄2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 cup shortening
- 1 egg, beaten slightly
- 1 tablespoon vinegar
- 6 tablespoons water
- 4 raw potatoes, thinly diced
- 2 chopped onions
- 1 1⁄2 lbs steak
- 1 carrot
- 1⁄2 teaspoon biryani spice mix

- 2 tablespoons flour
- 2 tablespoons butter
- beef broth or water
- salt

directions
- Combine the flour, salt and baking powder.
- Cut in shortening as for pie crust.
- Combine the egg and vinegar.
- Add to the flour mixture.
- Add the water gradually until the flour is moistened and holds together like a pie crust.
- Chill for an hour or so for easier handling.
- Divide dough into 5 balls.
- Roll each ball out and, using an 8-inch foil pie tin, cut out circles.
- Layer on half of each shell potatoes, onion, sprinkle of salt and pepper, ground meat, potatoes, onion and sprinkle of salt and pepper.
- Fold over shell.
- Crimp edges securely.
- Prick top with fork.
- Bake on a greased cookie sheet in a preheated 375 degrees oven for about 60 minutes on bottom rack or until fork inserts easily into pastie and pastie is nicely brown.
