  • Combine the flour, salt and baking powder.
  • Cut in shortening as for pie crust.
  • Combine the egg and vinegar.
  • Add to the flour mixture.
  • Add the water gradually until the flour is moistened and holds together like a pie crust.
  • Chill for an hour or so for easier handling.
  • Divide dough into 5 balls.
  • Roll each ball out and, using an 8-inch foil pie tin, cut out circles.
  • Layer on half of each shell potatoes, onion, sprinkle of salt and pepper, ground meat, potatoes, onion and sprinkle of salt and pepper.
  • Fold over shell.
  • Crimp edges securely.
  • Prick top with fork.
  • Bake on a greased cookie sheet in a preheated 375 degrees oven for about 60 minutes on bottom rack or until fork inserts easily into pastie and pastie is nicely brown.
