CAKE
- 1⁄2 cup Crisco
- 2 (1 ounce) bottles red food coloring
- 1 1⁄2 cups sugar
- 1⁄4 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 2 whole eggs
- 2 cups cake flour
- 1 tablespoon cocoa
- 1⁄4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 tablespoon vinegar

ICING
- 1⁄4 cup flour
- 1 cup sweet milk
- 1⁄2 cup oleo
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1⁄2 cup Crisco
- 1 pinch salt
- 1 drop red food coloring
- 1 cup sugar

CAKE:
- Cream together Crisco, sugar, food coloring, and salt.
- Add vanilla and eggs and cream well.
- Sift and measure cake flour.
- Add cocoa and salt, and sift 3 times.
- Add to mix alternately with buttermilk. Beat well.
- Fold in soda that is dissolved in vinegar. Makes 2 layers or 3 thin layers.
- Grease and flour pans and bake at 375 degrees for 25 to 35 minutes.

ICING:
- Cook flour and milk to pudding stage.
- Stir constantly, and then set off to cool. Cream oleo, vanilla, Crisco, and salt.
- Add sugar and cream well.
- Add to pudding and beat well until fluffy. (It will look like whipped cream).
- For pink icing, add a few drops of red food coloring.
