  • CAKE:

  • Cream together Crisco, sugar, food coloring, and salt.
  • Add vanilla and eggs and cream well.
  • Sift and measure cake flour.
  • Add cocoa and salt, and sift 3 times.
  • Add to mix alternately with buttermilk. Beat well.
  • Fold in soda that is dissolved in vinegar. Makes 2 layers or 3 thin layers.
  • Grease and flour pans and bake at 375 degrees for 25 to 35 minutes.
  • ICING:

  • Cook flour and milk to pudding stage.
  • Stir constantly, and then set off to cool. Cream oleo, vanilla, Crisco, and salt.
  • Add sugar and cream well.
  • Add to pudding and beat well until fluffy. (It will look like whipped cream).
  • For pink icing, add a few drops of red food coloring.
