My grandmother's recipe given to me by my mom :)... Other than that I have no idea if its an original recipe... or adopted from somewhere. Prep time is an estimate. Best with Mom's Icing (Mom's Icing).

Directions

  1. Boil butter, crisco, and water in a sauce pan.
  2. Pour mixture over sugar, flour, and cocoa.
  3. Mix well but do not beat.
  4. Stir in remaining ingredients and pour into greased 9x13 pan.
  5. Bake for 20 minutes at 400°F.

Wow! We love this cake! The best recipes are always the ones that come from mom & gramma. :) This cake is no exception. I can't even tell you how easy it was! I had the cake (Mom's Icing) done from start to serve in less than an hour. This will no doubt be my go-to cake for any last minute needs or just a quick chocolate fix. I used double dutch processed cocoa for both recipes. I loved not getting out the mixer, not having to wait for the cake to cool before icing; it was just heat, stir & pour. It's light & moist. Delish! Thank you for sharing your family's recipe, Megan. I'll be making it again. Made & enjoyed for Spring 2009 Pick A Chef.
