Melon Sorbet (Watermelon, Cantaloupe, Honeydew)

"This is one of the easiest and most refreshing desserts ever! Found the recipe on Food Network (Alton Brown) and it has endless possibilities! The cooking time indicated is really chilling time for the mixture. Note that sugar not only makes sherbet sweet but also makes it smooth and scoopable. If you reduce the sugar the sorbet will be hard, like ice."

  • Place the melon in the bowl of a food processor and process until smooth.
  • Add the lemon juice, vodka, and sugar and process for another 30 seconds.
  • Place the mixture in the refrigerator until the mixture reaches 40º F; approximately 1 hour.
  • Pour the chilled mixture into the bowl of an ice cream maker and process according to manufacturer's directions.
  • Transfer the sorbet to an airtight container and place in the freezer for 3 to 4 hours before serving.
